Stars and Stripes
When: July 2, 2025 | Where: The Wilson Center
Get a break from the sun and heat to celebrate America's independence with the North Carolina Symphony at The Wilson Center. Enjoy classic and patriotic favorites on this Patriotic Sunday with your family. Give an old-fashioned salute to the red, white, and blue. This is a popular event for locals and tourists alike, so get your tickets early. Tickets are available to purchase online starting at $20. The show starts at 7:30 pm, and the doors open at 6:30.
Airlie Gardens Butterfly Release
When: July 1 and 8, 2025 | Where: Arline Gardens
Join an Arlie Gardens educator inside the Butterfly House as they discuss the life cycle of butterflies and provide insights into the various butterfly species that are being released this week. Witness a magical moment as the butterflies fly into the butterfly house during the release at 10 am. Even in the event of rain, guests will have the opportunity to observe butterflies. This is a popular event that will sell out, so be sure to purchase your tickets ahead of time!
Wilmington Sharks
When: July 2 - 4, 2025 | Where: Legion Sports Complex
Spend America’s Birthday by watching America’s favorite pastime, baseball. The Wilmington Sharks will play three games over the holiday week, with a fireworks show at the end of each game. Bring the family and enjoy the game while indulging in hot dogs and peanuts. Watch as The Sharks battle other top-notch college players from across the US. Tickets for each night are available online, starting at $10 for general admission. The games start at 7 pm, but the gates open an hour before the game starts.
Independence Day Fireworks by the Sea & Boardwalk Blast
When: July 3, 2025 | Where: Carolina Beach Boardwalk
Experience Independence Day with a beachside fireworks show. Get there early, find your spot, and sit down on a blanket or beach chair to enjoy the sunset and fireworks. We highly recommend bringing a picnic or grabbing some takeout from one of the many local restaurants to enjoy while you wait for the show. The festivities kick off with music at the Gazebo Stage around 6:30 PM. Fireworks start at 9 pm and will last for 30 minutes. Keep in mind that this event is weather-dependent, and the schedule may be subject to change without prior notice.
Battle for Independence Road Race
When: July 4, 2025 | Where: The Pointe at Barclay
Kick off your Independence Day spiritedly and actively by participating in a thrilling race! Join fellow runners on the morning of the 4th of July for an exhilarating challenge along Wilmington's picturesque Gary Shell Cross City Trail. Whether you opt for the 5K or the one-mile race, the race route along Independence Boulevard promises a flat and fast course, attracting competitive athletes and families alike. The race for spectators is free, but if you want to run, you can register online.
Wilmington’s 4th of July Celebration!
