Description

Check out "Henson - Upper" (upper level) located in the historic McCabe-Lancaster House, a classic beach cottage with an open floor plan and nostalgic charm. The property is across the street from the ocean, and just steps away from the beach access with a lifeguard stand.

Both levels of this cottage may be rented individually or as an entire home. "Henson - Upper" is the second level and features 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, large kitchen, living and dining area. "Henson - Lower (C062)" is on the first floor and includes a ramp and also features 3 bedrooms and 2 baths, a large kitchen and living and dining areas.

The upper and lower levels are both accessed from outside. Each floor has a large open porch with swing, rockers, table and chairs. There is an outdoor shower shared for both units and a designated golf cart parking and charging station with room for two carts. Upon request a portable crib and high chair can be made available.

Come experience beach living the way it used to be, you'll be glad that you did!. Simple, efficient, and close to the sand and water. Lovingly maintained with great respect to it's history while also keeping it relevant for today's more discriminating guests, this home is made for making wonderful memories with your family. This is a non-smoking unit. No pets allowed.

Renter Requirements: Renters must be a minimum of 25 years old. Groups of unrelated occupants that do not reside in the same primary residence must be 30 years old.

Henson Upper was terrific! Great location with beach access just a few yards away! Decor was very much to our liking. Had a beach feel to it. Kitchen had everything needed. Corner store just steps away for anything we needed! Linens and bath towels included was great! Tons of covered porch/deck space! I would highly recommend this property and will book for next year. The only suggestion I have is to provide a gas grill to be shared by both units.

We love Henson Upper for our family vacation! Old school beach house, very short walk to beach access and great porch swing. But, now that Bryant is cleaning the house, it is obvious because there are spots on the carpet, the dishwasher front was not cleaned and the side of the refrigerator where the trash is kept was not cleaned nor were the shower heads in the bathrooms. Think the Bryant cleaning folks need to be a little more thorough.

It was a nice stay. Loved the porch and the distance to the beach. I think the rental could use some updates. The carpet was very stained as were the couches/ comforters. Other than that we had a wonderful time and enjoyed the stay very much.

Loved the location of the beach house. However, I do believe the floors should be mopped before guests arrive. I walked across the kitchen/dining room floor and my feet were black. I realize that the management company does their best in preventing pest but we did whiteness a few cockroaches. Otherwise the property was well stocked with everything you need to cook even some games for rainy days.

Sounds like you had a run in with one of our "locals". Unfortunately, palmetto bugs are prone to this area due to being to close to paradise. No worries! This property and many others are sprayed monthly to help prevent these unwanted visitors from making themselves at home. All properties are cleaned thoroughly (including mopping floors) after each guests departs so we may get the property ready for the incoming guests. Did you know that our Hospitality Department is available to all guests upon request? We wish we had the opportunity to address the issue with the floors you stated you encountered during your stay. The owner Skip is an awesome guy we asked him to come by. The house was the perfect take you back in time. We didn't watch any TV while we were there. Lots of music and just talking. Very Clean, relaxing vibe and dont forget to read the books

We had a great week! The house was perfect! It was very clean and equipped with everything we needed. The location was awesome! We only walked one house down to the beach access. The beach was not overly crowded, and there was a life guard stationed there. The boardwalk was in walking distance, and the pier at the opposite end of the road was also. We had one day of rain and one cloudy day, but you can’t control the weather. I will definitely be coming back to stay again and will recommend it to other family and friends also!! Thank You for a great week!!

Perfect house for my family. Porch is big enough all the grandkids and parents to eat dinner outside. The public access to the waterway is perfect if you have a kayak or paddleboard. And the bed linens are all cotton :)

We love the Henson House and have rented either the upstairs or the whole house multiple times. It is the perfect old fashion beach house - comfortable, steps from the beach - perfect for the family vacation. And in this crazy year of 2020, it was nice to get away.

My son, his wife, their twin 3 month olds and my husband and I spent 3 days staying here and loved it! It is literally about a block and a half walk to toes in the beach sand! The property is a bit dated but everything we needed was there, it was very clean, and sitting out on the deck with the babies was wonderful! We want to come back sometime before Labor Day so we will check availability! Thanks so much to the owners for a great stay!

Great Labor Day Stay

Our family (5 adults, 3 kids) stayed over Labor Day and had a great time. The space was perfectly sized as we did not feel cramped. It was very clean apart from a little dust on the ceiling fans and walls. The kitchen was also well stocked. One of our adults slept on the sleeper sofa and found the mattress less comfortable than the actual sofa. We enjoyed the front porch, especially the swing and the close proximity to the beach. There was a neighborhood cat that hung around the porch the first couple days. This was only concerning due to allergies in the family but it did not end up being a problem. We would definitely plan on staying here again.

The house was clean and in a good location. It was just across the street and down one house to the access to the beach. One concern was there is a window in the shower in the hall bathroom. We were on the second floor and the house next to us was three stories and had windows so all of us used the master bathroom to take showers. Also the walls are very thin and the people downstairs liked to stay up until 2-3 am. Except for these two things really liked it.

This was a perfect place for our week at the beach. We had 5 adults and all had their own sleeping space. The unit was very clean and very much appreciated the linens as part of the rental fee. The supplies in the kitchen were so helpful. Plenty of paper goods. Kitchen had many cooking items so we were able to do a lot of cooking for the week. You can hear the neighbors downstairs but it was not distracting. I have stayed in that same block before so the location to the beach is great. That part of the beach is also relatively less crowded compared to closer to the boardwalk. I will definitely reserve this house again. Also, it was easy to reserve and I appreciate the frequent convenient communication with the rental agency through the app. Overall a great experience!

A Week in the Henson Upper

Our week in the Henson Upper was great, a week of firsts. Our first vacation in 10 years, our first visit to Carolina Beach. The house was everything we needed--clean, well appointed, quiet location, supplies for our daily needs were available. Our granddaughter, from Seattle, came with us and she ha a blast. Beach access was very convenient, as was the little grocery store two doors north. We spent a lot of time sitting in the rocking chairs on the front porch, enjoying the sea breezes and "people watching". We could not have asked for a better vacation.

This condo was rented for my wife and two kids and one of my brothers and his fianc. So we had 2 children under 3 and 4 adults.

The pros: It was the perfect setup for us. 3 bedrooms with 2 baths. Very little down time in getting ready for the beach or the town. The condo was across the street and down one building from the closest access to the beach. It took longer for us to walk down the steps to the street than it did to get on the beach. It was nice being that close. The part of the beach you have immediate access to is the perfect beach for us too. It was not crowded at all. It was more families and kids. Plenty of room to roam there. The condo was clean and well stocked with appliances. Plenty of deck space! Had cable TV (we watched twice for the children) and decent WiFi. It was close to the boardwalk and plenty of shops.

Cons : The washer would stick in the rinse cycle and stay there unless you moved the dial. The walls were thin so Im sure the downstairs guests could hear my children making noise in the morning and night (they didnt complain if they did but you could hear through walls at night). The boardwalk had several places that were Cash Only. It wasnt a problem for us but we heard many people get disappointed there. You are between two waterways so the bugs got bad at night. The beach view was nearly non-existent from the condo (we spent so much time at the beach we didnt notice as it took 2 minutes to walk there). Really these things were minor to us but not much else to say for cons.

Overall this was a perfect relaxing (much needed) vacation on the perfect part of the beach! I would stay here again for sure and I will recommend this property to family and friends.

I never heard from the property management other than emails so it is hard to rate them. (Im not complaining about this. I prefer no contact )

We love our stay here and felt that many families have shared the same experience. Relaxed and not too fancy with lots of touches that make you feel you are in someone's home - not in a hotel - Henson House really has all that we needed. Beach access is across the street, there is a little store and a good coffee shop two doors down and you can walk to the boardwalk in the evening. There is plenty of parking if you need it and lots of space to spread out - the porch is just right for hanging out, playing board games or just rocking!! Kitchen has what you need (we would bring a lot less stuff next time), wifi, TV, DVD for the kiddies, etc., etc. This house just has the vibe we enjoy (we usually go to Narragansett in RI or Nags Head to some big old house so this was a good match and all members of our group felt the same (age ranges 10-64).

We had a great experience at Henson Upper. It was really close to the ocean and the waterway. The unit itself was very nice. The only complaint I would have is that the downstairs neighbors were extremely loud. Unfortunately, every night when the 25 yr olds came home from the bar, we had to listen to them fight. I'm not sure I would stay again unless I had friend/relatives staying below. The unit is great as is the location, but getting woken up every night was no fun.

We live across the street from this house. We rented their upper unit for our kids which we've done before. The house is great - extremely well maintained, well appointed and very comfortable. The owners take excellent care of the double unit house. The one criticism that I have is not with the property but with rental agencies in CB. From what I've seen, there is little to no information given to tourists about the rules and regs of CB. There are so many problems with beach regs not being followed, safety issues with golf carts, Freeman Pk problems etc. that it seems negligent to not have written material distributed with keys. We've had experience with several rental agencies in CB. Some give out limited information and some have none.
