Description

This waterfront home was built in 1926 and has been completely remodeled; perfectly blending that classic Wrightsville Beach charm with the modern comforts and conveniences you are looking for! The Yellow Pelican is a 4000 square foot single family home with five bedrooms in the main house and two ground floor apartments which offer additional living areas for large family groups.

Open the front door to reveal an enchanting covered porch with beautiful mosaic tile work that is nestled within the walls of this historic home – your own private oasis. The sunsets from this porch are amazing! After enjoying an evening on the comfortable outdoor sofa, dining in the soft breeze and soaking up the unobstructed views of the Intracoastal Waterway you will never want to leave! Enter through the sliding glass doors on the porch and you instantly feel at home in this beautifully appointed home. The kitchen is equipped with GE appliances and has two dishwashers, granite counter tops and a beautiful tile backsplash. The laundry room is located off the kitchen and has 2 washers and 2 dryers for added convenience. There are 6 barstools for casual snacking or informal breakfasts and the kitchen opens to the dining area where the table can seat 12 people. Just past the dining area is the cozy living room with ornate crown molding that adds to the character and charm of this lovely home. The living room leads to the covered ocean front porch that has several rocking chairs – a great place for morning coffee while watching the sunrise! Off the kitchen and living area you will find the fantastically remodeled full bathroom that services the queen guest room at the end of the hall.

Upstairs the sound front queen guest room has a flat screen tv and floor to ceiling windows which give tons of natural light with spectacular views of the sound. There is sound front king bedroom with a sitting nook where you can read a book while watching boaters on the waterway. Both king and queen sound front bedrooms share access to a full bathroom which is equipped with a walk-in shower stall. On the other side of the stairs is the second queen guest room with television that overlooks the ocean. The last bedroom at the end of the hall is perfect for kids as it is outfitted with two bunk bed sets, a trundle and television. The bunk room and queen guest bedrooms share the other full bathroom with a shower/tub combo and dual vanity.

The ground floor of this home includes two completely renovated apartments that each have their own private entrance. Both apartments have windows in each room and feature a small open concept living and kitchens area. Mirror images of one another, each apartment is furnished with a flat screen television, full bathroom, queen bedroom, and small bonus bedroom that is accessed through the queen bedroom that has a twin bed and trundle. The ceilings in the ground floor apartments are lower than the main house but the views of the Intracoastal from living room and kitchen are still present. The ground floor apartments have also been totally remodeled and are a great retreat for kids or those family members that appreciate some quiet time on vacation.

Located on the most desirable part of the island, the front yard is just steps away from the beach and your shared back yard is the largest waterfront lot on the island and includes a dock, covered gazebo, and one boat slip. Enjoy sunsets while playing yard games with the family or fishing off the dock. With the beach just steps from your front door and the waterway positioned in your back yard you are sure to make lasting memories on this year’s family vacation!

We love the location and the layout of this home. It is the third year we have stayed here and it is just the right size for our large family. Unfortunately it is not being maintained as it should. During a time when extra cleaning is supposed to be done the kitchen cabinets and drawers still had dirt and food on them and there was hair and sand in the showers. The dishwasher was broken and one of the dryers didn’t work right.

Great House & location. Nicely furnished and very clean except one item. The cupboard was full of dirty dishes at checkin. A result of the too stringent requirement of clean dishes must be back in cupboard for a 10am checkout.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay. The home, while dated, is in an excellent spot. It could have been cleaner, particularly since the rental agency prided themselves on thorough cleaning due to COVID-19. There was a major problem with flies and many appliances/air conditioners did not work throughout our stay.

However, we were ok with all of that. My major concern was the unprofessionalism of the rental company. They were very difficult about letting us in the house and told me I had to vacate the property 30 minutes before check-in time because they had to covid check it (which they never did). The house was “cleaned” prior because I saw the people leave and they told me to contact the company, but the people on the phone lacked any sort of compassion and understanding. This continued throughout the week when we would call for maintenance issues in regards to appliances and air conditioning. They would not answer calls, and when they did, they would have an attitude on the other line and be very reluctant to helping. One of the apartment units downstairs only had one of three air condition units working the entire week. The one that did leaked major water until Tuesday when a nice maintenance man finally came as listened to our complaint. The dishwasher was never fixed the entire week we were there.

My family enjoyed the house and the location. We are easy going people. But, when you have a bunch of kids in a house, appliances need to work. I understand that things happen, but they lack of care by the rental agency was unacceptable. We would come back to this house again, but would definitely have to re-consider if the rental agency continues this behavior and treatment of customers.
