Description

Nestled among the dunes on the northern part of Wrightsville Beach is an elegant, comfortable, and convenient single-family home known as “Madras House”. This expansive home offers three living levels which include 4 bedrooms, 4 and a half bathrooms, sweeping ocean views, a game room, private beach access, and so much more. Your family will be spinning vacation tales about this wonderful home for years to come!

The wide foyer welcomes you into a spacious open living floor plan that is accented by abundant natural light and spectacular ocean views. An open dining and kitchen area that features a second breakfast room for informal meals ensures ample seating for friends and family to gather. The well-equipped kitchen offers you a double stacked oven and a reverse osmosis water filtration for the purest water possible. Along with this are two refrigerators, a wet bar in the dining room, and a half bathroom for your guest’s convenience. The spacious deck off the living room has beautiful ocean views along with a covered area and what a great spot to take that afternoon nap in the shade.

The middle level of the home is the sleeping quarters. The spacious primary oceanfront suite has a large king size bed, sitting area that converts to a queen sleeper sofa, and on suite bathroom that offers a soaker tub a zero-entry shower with grab bars. A nearby guest suite offers two queen beds with a private bathroom. The third guest bedroom is furnished with a queen size bed and offers marvelous ocean views. Another guest bedroom with two twin beds is close by and neighbors the hall bathroom that serves the two guest rooms. Also on this floor is the laundry room (washer/dryer) with large counter space, cabinets, separate sink, and ironing board.

The top living level of “Madras House” is a wonderful gathering space as it offers a sitting area with TV, a pool table, foosball table, and a sensational roof top deck where everyone will love hanging out. There is a queen sleeper sofa and a full bathroom on this level which helps it double as a sleeping area for larger groups. A workstation, reading nook, and library of books make this space extremely versatile and offer a great space to escape to. The private top floor deck offers the best panoramic ocean views on the island but also captures the picturesque sound views. A great place to have that evening cocktail and experience a Key West sunset!

There is a boardwalk that takes you directly to the beach and is shared by the neighbor next door. A fully enclosed outdoor shower with hot and cold water and a foot washer add to the convenience of this lovely home. There are plenty of beach games in the garage, bocce set, beach tennis and other beach items which you are welcome to use. The garage is not used for parking but has a handicap ramp with a 2-inch rise for each horizontal foot of travel - if needed. This property has been equipped with an elevator in the past, however, it is not compliant with Weston’s Law and therefore has been disabled. The elevator cannot legally be operated for any purpose. The house has a beautiful view of the ocean which can be enjoyed on the back deck or from the third-floor observation patio. The beach itself is beautiful. The house has plenty of amenities for cooking.

The online pictures do not give the size of this beach home justice. It is huge, nice large bedrooms and bathrooms, with plenty of parking (a premium in Wrightsville Beach). Beautiful stretch of beach in the back yard with a great back deck and covered area.

Mixed bag on this rental property... many positives and opportunities
Pro:
Perfect location - couldn’t ask for a more beautiful oceanfront beach lot
Size and layout - very nice layout and flow
Linens - fantastic and organized
Beds - slept great
Outside decks - great views from many spots and lots of chairs and loungers
Opportunities:
Dated kitchen - slow coffee pot, no toaster, fridge handle broken and makes ice but you have to scoop it out as door dispenser is broken
Saw a few roaches around kitchen area - they committed to get the place treated
Water came out black in the tub near single bed bedroom
Driveway is tight to turnaround but convenient at the same time.

In summary, overall with some simple upgrades this could be a five star rental

Home layout, location, and property manager communication was terrific! 4 full bathrooms to go with the 4 bedrooms was perfect for our extended family holiday. Living room was fun for watching the big game together. Fun third floor for older kids. Big porch & easy beach access perfect for grandchildren. Kitchen was large enough for many cooks. Could use new carpet & bigger sheet pans, but great overall. Our group loved this place - all gave two thumbs up. We would all go again! Highly recommend.

PROS:Great location. Layout of rooms is perfect.
Wonderful deck overlooking ocean with easy access to beach.
CONS: Almost every room is lacking any type of window shade. Furniture and carpets are worn or stained. Hot water takes about 3 minutes to get.

Great experience but had requested the elevator for one of my guests that had hip surgery recently and it was not made available. Property had a gorgeous view of the beach and ocean. House could use some TLC as far as paint and a new coffee maker, the one in the house is slow as molasses. Need caulk for pool table.

We had a wonderful week with 13 family members from July 10-17. Two of our adults were handicapped.
One thing we would like to see added is the downstairs bathroom needs a higher toilet and handles for handicapped. Also the bathroom beside the room with the hospital bed and king bed needs a higher toilet and handles. The space is too small to help someone on and off the toilet.
The elevator was wonderful!!!! It worked perfectly!
We did have some issues with huge roaches showing up from time to time - kitchen, upstairs hallway, etc. Needs roach treatment or something.
Overall we had a wonderful week and the maintenance guys came out pretty quickly to fix the door to the deck - it was hard to push and got stuck a couple of times.

The home has a few handicap features including a ramp from the garage leading into the house, an elevator, ramp leading out to the back porch, and the middle level master has a handicap bathroom with fully accessible roll in shower. I will make note of your suggestions and see what else we can do! Sorry to hear you had a run in with the "locals"... water bugs are an unfortunate result of the climate of Southeastern North Carolina and a house so close to the dunes and are very common in the area so not unit-specific. The home is on a regular pest control spray schedule which prevents them as much as possible. Hopefully it wasn't too unsightly and didn't impact your overall enjoyment of the unit! The home is quite spacious with many decks so you can catch the beautiful ocean and marsh views throughout! We hope you will come back next time your family visits Wrightsville! Keep in touch!

Extended Family of thirteen spent a wonderful week in the home. The house floorplan allows for privacy and quiet although we had two toddlers running around. The back porch is fenced so that the younger children could play on their own with little supervision required. The house is showing wear and age but everything worked and suited us with our six grandchildren.

Madras House is ideally located and the house is spacious and comfortable. Our family of 4 spent a lovely week at the house. It does feel a bit "run down around the edges" and could use some sprucing up (stained carpet in the living area, windows that have lost their seal and are permanently clouded).
The internet was not working when we arrived and the management company responded promptly and came out within a couple of hours.

Location location location. Perfect for family w young ones and accessibility to beach. For the price, house is dated. Additionally attention to detail for this level of price is a bit missing. Trash was piled up outside from prior visitor thus making disposal difficult. Most importantly it’s a great location and that’s what we went for. Would recommend updates at this price point and likely it was available as last minute rental on a busy weekend in comparison to similar beach front properties at same price point

We stayed at Madras House last year and looked forward to a repeat of family fun time celebrating a grandchild's birthday. The location is very nice and views awesome. So with guests from different parts of the country it's a great house for coming together while providing privacy when desired. The kitchen is well equipped and comfortable for several persons to move around without getting in each other's way. Not sure if we'll book it again unless some issues are resolved as the house is need of a face lift (new carpeting, repair ceiling leak in Master bedroom, clean vents, etc. etc) Or the rental price should be lowered and these issues explained to potential clients. Overall, the check in -check out process was simple. Having a key code on front door simplified guests' comings and goings. Thanks.

The carpets are actually being cleaned and renewed this week, the issue above the master bedroom ceiling has been repaired and repainted, and many of the window treatments are being updated, among other touches. Loved the house. It fit our needs perfectly. The kids loved the pool table.
Only downside is that the internet and TV were out. We had to call Spectrum service, but because of the Thanksgiving holiday, it was 2 days before they could come. They discovered it was unplugged, presumably by the owner.

The house needs maintenance. The air conditioner started to leak setting off the house alarm. The ice maker did not work. There were no instructions about the use of the dish washer.

All good, have stayed there now 3 times. Just a few things. Last year the owner saw it was the second time we had rented the house (used to be with Intracoastal) and he volunteered to give us a $500 discount. You can let him know that I would be more than willing to accept that gift again if he wants to do so for July 2019. It would be nice if the owner hired a plantation shutter repair person to come in and fix all the single pieces that have broken loose, there are a good many throughout the whole house. At some point the den furniture could be replaced as well, adequate, but could be a little nicer and more comfortable. Also, you can tell the owner I was able to get the really nasty black grease stains out of the carpet in the master bedroom, no extra charge.

We had several minor fixes diuring the stay - air/heat, refrigerator ice (not fixed as of when we left), window shitters. We did not an garage remote opener which for my handicap wife was very inconvenient. Needs some minor kitchen items - tea kettle, baking dishes, for example. Also got use more beach toys, blankets, umbrella, etc. I have rented similar priced houses that have these.

During or after your stay, the HVAC was serviced and the window shutters have been addressed. We have also performed a full inventory on the kitchen, and have provided all required items.
